Hi, my name is Euleta Guy, and I live in Jemison; in fact, I taught 6th grade at Jemison Elementary for 30 years before retiring. I am married to Richard Guy and have 2 daughters, Trinity Harris and Valerie Guy. The loves of my life are my two granddaughters, Dara and Natalie Harris. My husband and I attend Thorsby First Baptist Church. When I’m not working with jewelry, you will find me working in my yard!
I work with costume jewelry, which sounds very questionable because so many artists create jewelry, but I don’t make pieces you can wear; I make pictures from things that have been worn. I certainly don’t consider myself an artist, but I always look for ways to improve things. Years ago, a friend gave me a Christmas tree constructed of costume jewelry glued to velvet on plywood. Although I enjoyed the tree, I immediately began to think of ways to improve it (for instance, don’t use plywood, cut wood in standard sizes to frame, etc.). I began to branch out and make hearts, crosses, and musical notes as well as the trees, all from old costume jewelry that I bought or someone gave to me. For years, I gave these pictures to special friends. Finally through the encouragement of friends, I decided to “test the show waters”, but no one told me how much work that was going to be!
My favorite projects are commissioned pieces where ladies and men bring me old family pieces, usually of a deceased loved one. As I work with each piece of jewelry, I imagine the original owner wearing that piece many years ago through days of happiness and sorrow, and that brings me joy. It’s like bringing that person to life again!
If you want to contact me to commission a piece or buy my work, I have a Facebook page “Vintage Treasures” with many examples of my previously sold work displayed. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
