Mack Gothard is a retired Math and Art teacher. He has taught Middle and High School students in Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. He considers himself as a Renaissance man because of his love for Art, Music, Science, Anatomy, Mathematics, and Classical Greek and Roman period of history. He became a Gourd Art lover after being ask to paint a design on a gourd. He was hooked immediately. After retiring, he moved back from Georgia to Chilton County to his family's old home place. He is following a family tradition of growing gourds, not for Martin bird houses, but for crafting Gourd Art. At the 2014 Alabama Gourd Society Gourd Festival in Cullman, He was awarded the title, “Gourd King”, for having the most points awarded in the ribbon competitions. Mack was the first male winner in the 16th annual event. He is an active member of the Chilton County Arts Council and Central Alabama Gourd Exposure Patch.
